November 9th is National Go to an Art Museum Day, and it's a perfect time to discover the fascinating works around the Twin Cities. From classical works to modern masterpieces, there are plenty of museums to explore around Minnesota. If you're in town touring Saint Paul or Minneapolis homes for sale, stop by these six interesting museums.

  1. Museum of Russian Art – 5500 Stevens Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55419
    The Museum of Russian Art is one of the most unique art galleries in the Twin Cities. TMORA is the only museum on the continent dedicated to Russia's extensive history's culture and art. With more than 5,000 pieces, you can purchase a $50 annual membership to receive free admission to all exhibits and exclusive discounts for all programs and events at TMORA.

  2. Minneapolis Institute of Art – 2400 Third Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55404
    The Minneapolis Institute of Art works to make outstanding art from around the world accessible to the communities of the Twin Cities. Art lovers will be delighted to discover almost 100,000 artworks ranging from as far into the past as 5,000 years. If you can't head to the Minneapolis Institute of Art on Go to an Art Museum Day, you can explore their works virtually from home, along with podcasts and videos.

  3. Walker Art Center – 1750 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55403
    If you're in the mood to view art indoors and out, head over to the Walker Art Center and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. The Walker Art Center has both long-term installations and rotating exhibitions totaling nearly 12,000 works. You can also visit their library to view their archives ranging back to 1879. After your visit, stroll the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden outside and enjoy the crisp fall weather before the snow flurries arrive.

  4. Weissman Art Museum – 333 East River Rd., Minneapolis, MN 55414
    Head over to the University of Minnesota to visit the Weissman Art Museum on Go to an Art Museum Day. Their permanent collection features more than 25,000 unique pieces of art, including Korean furniture, ceramics, and American modernism pieces. If you can't make it on November 9th, be sure to visit on another November afternoon as Weissman Art Museum is hosting several fascinating events throughout the month.

  5. Minnesota Museum of American Art – 350 Robert St N, Saint Paul, MN 55101
    The Minnesota Museum on American Art explores the identities and experiences of Americans through creativity and artwork. Their extensive collection showcases American artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. They are currently undergoing an expansion to feature more artwork from some of the country's most iconic artists.

  6. American Museum of Asmat Art – 2115 Summit Ave #44C, Saint Paul, MN 55105
    Another exceptional and unique gallery in the Twin Cities, the American Museum of Asmat Art offers a fascinating glimpse into the culture and art of the Asmat people. Located on the campus of the University of St. Thomas, this museum dedicated to Papua region of Indonesia features over 2,000 pieces. As one of the largest museums of its kind in the country, the American Museum of American Art offers showcases works that are not for sale, unlike most Asmat art created today.
